Small Triumphs

April 29th, 2011 at 08:54 pm

My husbands Prom (he's a teacher) is coming up next weekend. I ran out to get a dress today. I checked our consignment store and then went to Marshalls without luck. I found a nice dress at Leohmann's for $60. I put it on hold and went to try Nordstrom's Rack. After striking out there, I sat down to think.

I had a short black dress at home, but I didn't want to freeze at the dance. I paused and checked the weather for that night. The low was only 58F. I reentered Nordstroms and purchased a $10 wrap. So that was $50 saved by a moment of reflection, my smart phone, and my frugal skills

Tadaaa! Good thinking. And don't smartphones and the internet lead to an absolutely huge blessing sometimes? Any time you have some insurance of being able to save 50 bucks based on information you couldn't get through another method, well, it's just another boost for technology. Wouldn't have been possible a decade+ ago!

My girls needed black shrugs to go with spaghetti strapped dressed in Feb for the Father-Daughter Dance. I priced them at several places, the cheapest ones I could find were $25. I ended up hitting the clearance rack at an upscale store finding Christmas dresses that were deeply discounted - two piece sets that happened to have black velvet shrugs. My cost out-the-door: $29.50.
